Originally from Chile, Oriana has made Gisborne her home for the past 17 years. With a background in horticulture, she currently serves as the Open Spaces and Amenity Team Leader at Gisborne District Council (GDC), where she has worked for over 9 years, overseeing public gardens, parks and street trees ensuring their ongoing planting care and maintenance. Oriana is passionate about plants and enjoys working alongside local volunteers. Over the past five years, Oriana has dedicated part of her time collaborating with community groups, supporting volunteer-led initiatives to restore and protect the region’s coastal dunes.
Kaitawa estuary and wharf dunes
Oriana will show us the restoration project at Kaitawa estuary and the dune restoration at Ūawa beach and how it has been impacted by cyclones and the recovery taking place.
